Life Drawing class
It had been forever since I last attended Life Drawing (since college 4 years ago to be exact)! My friends invited me to attend a Life Drawing Saturday class at Bethnal Green at the Backyard Bar & Kitchen. The session costed £10 to stay for 1 and a half hours or £15 for 3 and a half hours; this included being able to use their pencils/stationary, using their paper (at the cost of 20p per A3 sheet) and also being able to draw and observe their provided model for the session.
The session starts with back to back 2 minute poses from the model, giving us all 2 minutes to sketch the pose before moving on swiftly to the next. I enjoyed the 2 minute poses because I like to do quick rough sketches where I can just be paying attention to the outline and body shape.
I tried to use a bit of charcoal for this 5 minute sketch, however, I really didn't feel confident using this material so I moved back to using pencil. The timing for the poses start to increase slightly, starting from 2 minute poses, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes and the final pose being a 30 minute pose.
After the first half of the session, another model came in and there was 2 models present at once!! It was a challenge but it was also very interesting and new to be able to draw 2 different models within 1 day.
This was my final 30 minute sketch. I wasn't really proud of this one because I felt the angle that I was drawing from was fairly difficult for me, but I still wanted to try challenge myself by drawing at this angle. However, I did get a few compliments with this piece, mainly praise on my attention of detail within the small drawing (I did all my drawings in my A4 sketchbook).
Overall, the class was very enjoyable and I definitely would love to go again when my friends and I are all free again to go together. The other artists who attended the class were all very nice and friendly - It was also just great to watch other artists at work and see everyone gathering together to do something that we all enjoy.
