Sakagura LONDON

An evening dinner out at Sakagura, in Heddon Street, London. A friend invited us all out to eat here because there was a limited offer on wagyu ramen for £10 and she also mentioned that they just do brilliant tasting food overall! So of course I couldn't turn down the offer to try something new as I love to experience new things. Arriving at the restaurant with no reservation, with 6 people and it being 8:30PM, there was not going to be a free table without a small wait. However, we sat outside of the restaurant as there were super heated lights shining over all the tables! Huge blanket scarfs were also provided to keep us warm.

My friend ordered a virgin cocktail, Takai mojito - It was made up of fresh mint, grapefruit soda, fresh limes, cranberry juice and calpico (£8.50). First of all, I have to say the presentation of the drink was so amazing; it was very unique and I can't say I've ever seen a drink being presented so highly before! It also tasted as good as it looked, it was non alcoholic and tasted very fruity with a sour after taste to it.

We recieved our starters first. Ika karaage (£8) was ordered by my friend - squid calamari with lime and chilli aioli dip. I really enjoyed the squid calamari on its own without the sauce they provided. The chilli aioli dip was very overpowering when the squid was dipped. It was a sweet and thick textured sauce, it really was drowning out the wonderful texture of the squid calamari.

Salmon toro with spring onion hosomaki (Toro meaning the fatty underbelly of the fish) (6 piece for £5). I could definitely taste the difference with eating this freshly made 6 piece hosomaki compared to eating a store bought pack that had been refrigerated the entire day. I tend to not like cold sushi so much because it makes the texture confusing when it is all cold and lumped together for several hours. This salmon hosomaki smelt fresh and the texture of the rice to the salmon toro was very obvious when it was in your mouth. It was mouthwatering... For the price it was, I'm really glad I ordered this small sushi dish.

The main course that had attracted us to coming to Sakagura finally arrived at our tables.. One hour after we had finished our starters. So we had very high expectations as we had waited so long our stomachs were eager after the long wait.
The Wagyu and Truffle Tonkotsu Ramen. Rich 12-hour pork broth tonkotsu ramen comes topped with prime wagyu beef, truffle, nitamago egg, kikurage mushrooms, spring onion, sesame, and nori seaweed (£10).

Succulent and mouth-watering.... It was definitely worth the wait! Ah the whole dish was just bursting with flavour and textures. It was the first time I had ever tried wagyu beef and also the first time I ever ate beef so rare. The texture of the beef was very soft and it melted in your mouth; I think that it was unfortunate the beef it had been soaking in the pork broth for so long that it just tasted like pork broth! However, the pork broth did taste great and full of flavour along with the egg, spring onions and the nori.

The only let down we had at the restaurant was that our main courses took over an hour to arrive after our starters had been eaten. Nonetheless, the food was amazing and the waiters and waitresses were very friendly and apologetic about the delay on the food. I would definitely dine here again and recommend it to friends and family.
